Job Description
Title: Ditch Rider/Maintenance Reports to: Operations Manager
This is a full-time position.
The following information is designed to outline the functions and position requirements of this job. It does not identify all tasks that may be expected, nor address the performance standards that must be maintained.
General Position Summary:
Support water delivery to customers; ensure that tasks associated with release of irrigation water are completed; maintenance concerns are addressed; and maintain records and documentation. Under general supervision, positions in the Maintenance classification perform general maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of district facilities and operating motor vehicles & heave equipment.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
· Perform all duties involved in delivery of irrigation water to customers, including the construction of ditches, head gates, checks, and bulk heads.
· Conduct releases of water as authorized and schedules customer water releases.
· Regularly check water flow and assess any ground issues.
· Regularly check head gates for possible concerns or malfunction.
· Maintain all District equipment.
· Assist in the maintenance of all District facilities.
· Produce and maintain required documentation on spreadsheet type forms.
Job Scope:
This position has substantial responsibility for both equipment and facilities. Sound judgment is necessary due to much of the work being solitary. Procedures exist to guide some actions, but some problems may be unique. Customer satisfaction is significantly impacted by the work of this position.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities but may be asked to train or orient new employees.
Interpersonal Contacts:
This position has regular contact with customers, and their satisfaction is an important aspect of the job responsibilities. Tact, responsiveness, ability to manage interactions that are less pleasant, and ability to clearly communicate are essential. Some internal interactions with other staff members regarding work assignments and passing on information are also regular occurrences.
Specific Job Skills:
· Able to work as part of a team.
· Physical ability to lift 100 pounds, shovel, stoop, bend, push and pull large, heavy items.
Education and/or Experience:
Position does not have specific education requirements. Employees must have the ability to produce and maintain required documentation. Experience with outside work, operation of heavy equipment, and previous work with welding and cutting tools is a plus.
Job Conditions:
Employees in this position will work outside most of the time. Clean driving record, and state driver license is required. Possession of or ability to obtain a commercial driver license is recommended. Ability to pass federal background check and pre-employment substance screening. All candidates considered will be required to live within a 15-mile radius of Langell Valley Irrigation Districts office.
Pay and Hours:
During irrigation season, the selected candidate may be subject to being on call 24 hours a day for 7 days a week. Due to the unknowns of the irrigation seasons, hours will not be set during those times. Certain periods of irrigation season will require longer working weeks. During non-irrigation season maintenance will be conducted requiring the position to fill 35-40 hours a week.
